HyperX Pulsefire FPS Review – Cheap Mouse for FPS

Pulsefire FPS review before ordering the gaming mouse. If you are an avid gamer, your expectation is that the mice that you buy will last the longest time possible. In addition, computer game mice are not exactly cheap.

And that is why you should never buy one blindly. It is always a good idea to read an article such as this one. That way, you can know whether you will get good value for your money, or not. Just like the Logitech G302, this one is simplistic in design. In fact, looking at it, you will think that it is just one of the regular office mice.

HyperX Pulsefire FPS introduction

Although it bears a simple design, this is very stylish. It also offers the user a comfortable grip. You can play your favorite games with it for hours on end without getting unduly tired.

In many reviews, you will see that this peripheral is touted as a performer. Now, many mice call themselves performers, but when you play at higher DPI setting, you find that the tracking becomes a bit jittery. When we say the Pulsefire is a performer, we mean that whether at high or low DPI setting, it exceeds expectations.

Of course, mice are only as good as their features, you know things like buttons, polling rate and so on. In the upcoming section, we shall look at the features that make this item tick.

But first, let us see the pros and cons that you can expect:

The Good

  • Contoured grip makes it anti-slip
  • She has a nice button setup
  • Design is very appealing to the eye
  • The performance is very good
  • There is good weight distribution
  • Omron mechanical switches rated for millions of clicks
  • Has two skates that move smoothly on most surfaces

The bad

  • When you adjust the DPI, the LED colors change
  • Too large for people with small hands

Bottom line

The HyperX Pulsefire FPS is a good gamer for first person shooter games. It has a 3200 maximum DPI sensor, but the tracking is excellent. Its big build is quite comfortable in the hands and it gives a solid feel.

The Mouse Features

The features determine the performance of any computer game mouse. It is not any different with this one as you will see in this article. If we could dissect this one, we could find hundreds of features, some small, some big and impactful. However, the few that we will discuss in this section make this what it is. Here we go:

Design and build quality

HyperX Pulsefire FPS design

It has an ergonomic build, very stylish to boot and at the same time, it is one of the most comfortable mice in the market, thanks to its large size. At 5 inches long, if you have big palms, you have quite a lot to smile about. If you have small palms, the best that you can do is hold it claw-style.

Although it is big in size, the weight is quite manageable because it barely gets to 100g. It has two large feet – one in the front and one in the back. That way, it moves easily on different types of surfaces including wood and textile.

Despite the stylish, upward-flared out shape, everything about this wired rodent is quite subtle. It is not one of those flashy mice for playing computer games that most people are used to. However, that does not mean that it is bare of any “flashiness” because there are a few lighting zones. One light zone is on the logo, the other on the scroll wheel and on the button for adjusting the DPI.

On the sides, there are textured rubber grips. These are supposed to help keep it anti-slip. They are soft to the touch and once you get used to them, you never actually feel them on your skin.

It has been designed to be used by righties. Thus, if you are a leftie, you had better look for mice from the Logitech line of products. Overall, this is a good choice for people who need one that blends in on the work desk.

Performance

This, as they say, is where rubber meets road. This is where we distinguish between the true performers and the hype. Now, while HyperX is not as popular for making gaming mice as Corsair or Logitech, it has truly outdone itself with the subtle Pulsefire FPS.

Now, there seems to be mice made for certain types of games. For example, the Logitech G302 is best for all types of games, but it is specifically very good a playing MOBA games. Now, this mouse is designed with the first person shooter games in mind. These include Overwatch, Team Fortress 2, Quake, Doom and others. However, once you feel it out, you are going to see why many people say it is best for all types of games.

One of the most important things that determine the performance of mice is the tracking, and accuracy of the sensor. Now, this one uses a Pixart 3310 sensor, a bit old but offers a surefire performance all the same. The maximum DPI that you can get out of this is 3200, which is good enough for many games. Considering that most laptop monitors come with a screen resolution of 1920P, unless you are using a 4K display, these DPI settings are good for you.

4500DPI sensor

You will get excellent tracking from the sensors. However, you may have a small problem of the software not calibrating it to suit different surfaces. However, that is something that you can live with. Besides, you should buy a mat as that can help it move faster.

Don’t worry about the DPI or even assume it is low. We hardly get to use the maximum setting for mice with DPI of 12000 and above. For most of the games, the maximum we can do is 4500DPI.

Finally, the DPI settings are already preset to four tune ups, starting at 400 to 3200.

Button setup

HyperX Pulsefire FPS Button

You get six buttons. First, there are the regular right and left click buttons. These buttons are very responsive and accurate. What this means is that you can click the buttons gently, firmly, fast or slowly and you can be sure there will be no misclicks.

There are two thumb buttons. These are the forward and backward buttons. They are  onveniently located close to the top edge of the button. Then there is the DPI adjustment button. It helps when you want to adjust the DPI in the heat of battle to perform a certain action, for example, to take a shot.

The scroll wheel is also clickable, so you can assign it a certain function in the app. The scroll wheel is responsive and has a nice feel on the fingers. The scroll wheel lights up beautifully, so it should be pretty easy to use even in the dark.

The buttons are mounted on Omron switches, which are rated for millions of clicks. This is a common concept with many of the computer games mice that we have in the market. Usually, when the buttons give up, that is the end of the life of this device.

One more thing about performance… it moves well on a mat. It is recommended that you buy a gaming mat since the app does not calibrate it for different surfaces. Besides, the feet will last longer when you use a mat.

The cord

It is cabled, that much is obvious from a glance. Now, any HyperX Pulsefire FPS review will be able to show you that it has a unique cord. First, the cord is braided. This makes it last much longer than a rubber cable.

But that is not all that there is to it. You see, the cable has what we call a double braid. It has black and red coloring on the braid. Thus, you will be able to recognize it easily on the table, even when it is among many cables on a cluttered desk.

The only downside to this cord is that it is fixed. That means that if it gets damaged, you cannot replace it, and that will be the end of the whole item for you.

Price

On different marketplaces, you will find that this Fulsefire FPS is not going to cost you more than $40. They do not come any cheaper than this, at least not with the types of specs that we have here. While the price is not too different from what you would get on Logitech mice of similar specs, well, any dollar that you can save is welcome. You still need to buy a gaming mat, remember?

The grip

HyperX Pulsefire FPS The grip

Avid gamers play for many hours on end. If you are one such, you will be looking for a comfortable and ergonomic grip and this one gives you that, and then some. Some people find it strange that on the back end, it flares upwards instead of downwards.

However, that is just a design factor and indeed it makes it to look very stylish. People with small palms may find it a bit uncomfortable. However, if you have mid-sized to large palms, well, this mouse will work like a dream for you.

Software settings

When you are reading a HyperX Pulsefire FPS review, you might find some information that the app can be quite a piece of work. Not to worry though, others have customized their game mice with this system and so can you too. Just take time to read the user manual and you will figure it out.

Some users say the software is even easier to use than the Razer Synapse. So you can see, it really depends on whom you ask.

Conclusion

We have tried to expound as many features as possible in this HyperX Pulsefire FPS review. Now, you can make a decision based on the types of games that you love most. Do not let the insinuation that this one is best for FPS games dissuade you from getting it for other games because it performs very well on almost all genres. Just try it out and you will see for yourself.
