Every opportunity that Logitech gets, they outdo themselves to give the world a great specimen as you will see in this Logitech MX Anywhere 2S review. This is an excellent travel mouse. Everything about it was designed with the needs of a traveler in mind. That is why it is able to withstand the rigors of traveling so well. Like any good travel mouse, this one is wireless in design, and a full charge can last all of 70 days.
When traveling, you may not have the luxury of having a gaming desk. In that case, you want a mouse that can track perfectly, without jittering on any surface. Thankfully, the MX Anywhere 2S can track even on glass surfaces. If you find yourself in a dinghy hotel room that does not offer a computer desk, you will be glad you brought this mouse along.
One thing that is common with all travel mice is the small size. While we have continuously said in all of our reviews that big is always better when it comes to a mouse, well, the smaller it is, the more compact, and easy the mouse is to travel with. You will find that all Logitech mice made for portability are small.
If you see this mouse for the first time, you are swept off your feet by the style. The sides, the buttons, the underside and even the upperside are so well pronounced, so stylishly designed. If you care about looks (who doesn’t?), you should love the MX Anywhere 2S mouse.

Design and build quality
This is a well-designed and constructed mouse albeit a bit small at barely 4 inches long. At the widest point, this mouse is 2.4 inches, not very big again, but you can live with that.
It is a traveling mouse and so we understand the need for the small size. It is put together in such a way that it can withstand the abuse of traveling. Because of the small size, you will find it easy to pop this mouse into your jacket or pants pocket and you will hardly feel the weight.
If you have medium to big palms, you will find that it is only possible to hold this mouse claw-style. Those with small palms can hold it palm-style.
In many instances, this mouse looks like its sister mouse from the same MX line, the Logitech MX Master 2S. However, while the Master is made for office use, this one is made for traveling, and so there are slight differences here and there.
Like a good car, this mouse feels and indeed looks expensive. It is also so compactly put together such that the casing will not crack open when you drop it on the floor by accident. When you hold the mouse in your hand, it feels quite solid.
The styling of this mouse is very endearing. Matte-finish on the strong casing, the fantastic scroll wheel and the silent, confident look make this mouse quite stylish.
Performance
If you read any Logitech MX Anywhere 2S review, you will find that many users praise the performance of this mouse. There is no surprise there because Logitech has made stunning pieces for users every now and then since 1981.
One of the indicators of performance in a travel mouse is the tracking ability on different surfaces. It is not often that you will find a ready computer or work desk in the hotels that you use. Thus, you want a mouse that can track perfectly on any surface and enable you to complete your assignments without too breaking a sweat.
Of notable mention is the multi-device capability. If you are reading about this for the first time, it is the capability to use one mouse on three devices at the same time. The Logitech Flow software makes this possible. If you have never used a multi-device mouse, you will be totally sold to it at the first try.
It is so ingenious that you can copy and paste files from one computer to another. Before the advent of multi-device mice, you would be forced to copy a file to a USB stick, transfer it over Wi-Fi or the local network, too many hassles as you can see. With this mouse, you just need to copy a file, move the mouse cursor close to the edge of the computer and it will be transferred to the next computer.
To switch from one computer to another, there are one click buttons provided for that. If your job requires you to make presentations every now and then, you can have different computers for different parts of the presentation. The mouse connects with more devices through Bluetooth. Â
Button setup
Any fair Logitech MX Anywhere 2S review is going to discuss the buttons that this mouse comes with. It has its fair share of buttons. There are seven buttons and five of them can be customized in the Logitech software.
On the thumb side of the Logitech MX Anywhere 2S, there are two buttons placed close to the upper edge. These are the backward and forward buttons.
You may count the scroll wheel as a button too because it can be clicked. It also leans left or right to do any functions that you may assign it. However, of utmost importance is the square button that is placed just beneath the scroll wheel. You may assign this button any four functions. This button can be clicked in four directions, and it is very handy for customizing with upto four keyboard functions.
Please note that you cannot customize the scroll wheel. It is designed for super fast scrolling through web pages and documents. It makes navigation quite easy.
Sensor and DPI
This mouse has a laser sensor. Optical sensors have always been the preference of many people. However, it does not mean that the laser sensors are not any good. As you will experience with the Darkfield Sensor that comes with the MX Anywhere 2S wireless mouse, this sensor tracks very well over all types of surfaces. You can use it on your thigh, on glass or laminate surfaces and it will track just as well as it would if you used it on a mouse mat.
With 4000DPI, you can only expect high performance in tracking, zero jittering and fast movement of the cursor even on high-resolution displays. The reason why a higher DPI is preferable is to enable you to use the mouse on all types of displays. If you will be using it with a PC, Mac or laptop, you do no need high DPI. However, when you have a 4K laptop, you may need to crank the mouse to the highest level of DPI.
Software
The life of this mouse is in the software. Just like the Logitech gaming software (for Logitech gaming mice), this one is quite easy to use. Even if it is your first time to customize a mouse, you will find this software quite user-friendly.
You may customize the buttons. Actually, contrary to what many people think, even the forward and backward buttons on the thumb side are customizable. You can assign them any function that you want.
Other things that you may change in the software include the speed of the pointer, the scrolling speed, the DPI level and so on.
Remember, you may customize the buttons in such a way that you can be able to play First Person Shooter games.
While we are still on the software, perhaps we might mention that to use this mouse on three computers, you need to install the Logitech software in each computer. You will set Flow in the Logitech Software. Thankfully, this is quite easy to do and it should not take much time.
BatteryÂ
A wireless mouse is as good as the battery. Now, we have seen many wireless mice such as the Victsing MM057, which use a single AA battery. Others use 2 AAA batteries. However, the real winners, though they may cost more, are the mice that come with rechargeable batteries. This mouse comes with a rechargeable battery.
When you leave it to charge fully, it can last you a full 70 days on that single charge. With such battery life, you do not need to worry when you travel. You will be assured that your mouse has charge all the time.
Connectivity
For a single computer or laptop, you can use the USB dongle over the 2.4GHz frequency. However, to use the mouse with two or three devices/computers, you will use Bluetooth. Both methods have low latency and excellent performance.
ConclusionÂ
After reading this Logitech MX Anywhere 2S review, you have no doubt in your mind about the computing prowess that this mouse can put in your hands. You may also use the MX Anywhere 2S for FPS gaming. It is perfectly capable. Another thing that we may mention is that if you buy a Logitech Flow enabled keyboard, you can create a perfect workstation of three computers, all controlled by one mouse and one keyboard.
