My Experience With The Oppo Find X3 Neo After A Month Of Use

My Experience With The Oppo Find X3 Neo After A Month Of Use

OPPO is a brand that surely already sounds familiar to you. The company has been poking its head in the Spanish market for some time with mid-range and high-end equipment that attracts attention, such as the OPPO Find X3 Pro with its microscope camera that we were able to test a few weeks ago. On this occasion, we tested a somewhat reduced but very interesting version, the OPPO Find X3 Neo. Starting with its curved OLED-type screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. And continuing with a good set of cameras and a quick load of those that take your breath away. This mobile is capable of being fully charged in just 35 minutes thanks to the charger that comes with the box(yes, I’m still not used to the fact that other brands have started to make you pay extra for the charger when you have paid hundreds and hundreds of euros for the mobile).

The OPPO Find X3 Neo can be found in stores for an official price of 820 euros, although I have already found some offers to get your mobile that are around 650 euros in renowned Amazon stores. I have had the opportunity to tinker with this smartphone for several weeks, using it as the main mobile. These are my impressions and opinions of the cheapest equipment within the high range of OPPO.

VERY CAREFUL DESIGN WITH CURVED OLED SCREEN

I start this analysis by design. The OPPO Find X3 Neo draws attention from the first moment because nothing catches your eye. I explain. It has a very well-cared design, with attention to detail, which makes the whole work have harmony, from which no element can be seen to escape. It is elegant and robust, using metal at the rear. It is available in two colors: black and silver. This last one is the one I have tried, and a layer of shiny iridescent texture has been added to it that reflects different shades depending on how the sunlight hits it. It’s attractive without being over the top. The elegant touch of its design is reinforced by the use of metal on the sides and in the camera module, which stands out slightly from the rest.

VERY CAREFUL DESIGN WITH CURVED OLED SCREEN

Another point that could not be missing is the OPPO Find X3 Neo’s resistance to dust and water. In this case, we have an IP68 certification, which means that dust will not get in that could damage the equipment’s mechanisms and that it can withstand being submerged for a long time without danger. As I always warn in these reviews, “safety” is measured in a laboratory environment. It does not consider the salt in seawater or the chlorine in swimming pools, which are corrosive elements that can damage the mobile. It is a protection that gives you more peace of mind in the face of the danger of carelessly falling into the water on your getaway to the pool or the beach.

The mobile is light and thin, 184 grams and 8 millimeters thick. It has curved bezels for a comfortable grip, and it’s easy to use with one hand despite the 6.5-inch screen size. Of course, it is also true that I have gotten used to large mobiles in recent times, so if you come from a more veteran mobile, it is likely that you do not think like me. In any case, the screen is curved, giving you an infinite screen feeling and streamlining the design.

We are facing an OLED panel, a technology that stands out for the vividness of colors and for the reproduction of blacks, in addition to improving autonomy (pixels that are not being used turn off and do not waste energy). The tactile response is what is expected from a high-end mobile. It also stands out for its 90Hz refresh rate. This means that the animations of the menus and applications, when opening are smoother, giving you a faster and smoother feeling. This refresh rate means a higher energy expenditure, so you may prefer to keep the usual 60Hz.

FOUR CAMERAS IN THE BACK

As for photography, this mobile is well prepared to delight users who want good performance without reaching the top of the most advanced models on the market. On its back, it has a set of four lenses. The main one is 50 megapixels and has a Sony bill. It is the same sensor we found in its older brother, the OPPO Find X3 Pro. The results of this objective are at the level of high-end equipment but without reaching the top: good use of the HDR mode to improve the shots when there is a lot of chiaroscuro, sharp photos, and vivid colors, but without being oversaturated. Although it is not one of the most advanced models in night photos, it meets a good grade at this point. It controls the balance with the lights quite well (for example, those of the streetlights), and the colors are kept within shades that still seem natural. It is evident that some noise is noticeable when the light is quite low, but in general, you can immortalize your escapades at night and get good photos.

The secondary objective is 16 megapixels and wide-angle mode. As is often the case with these lenses, they perform well in good light conditions but fall off quite a bit if you try to use them at night. We also have a 13-megapixel telephoto lens to add a 2x zoom without loss of quality (and 5x in hybrid zoom, which adds artificial intelligence, so you don’t notice a loss of sharpness). I have to say that here I have had a very pleasant surprise with the stabilization of the camera when we put it at five magnifications. Movement is smooth, and you don’t have to struggle to get a decent shot that doesn’t come out shaky.

The last of the sensors is the macro type. The truth is that it does not contribute much. Be careful; these sensors seem to give a lot of play, but putting a resolution of only two megapixels makes it quite limited. In addition, you have to have good light conditions to take detailed photos with that point of quality. With these objectives, as they are being introduced in mid-range or even high-end mobile phones, I often have the impression that it is more of a way to fill out the file (a mobile phone with four cameras is more attractive than with three) than one proposal to improve the user experience with cameras.

By the way, the OPPO Find X3 Neo also has a blur or bokeh mode, but in this case, it takes advantage of the telephoto sensor. This means we must place ourselves at a distance of about two meters from the camera (not much more and not much less) to take advantage of the effect. That limits creativity quite a bit when taking advantage of the mode. The results are acceptable, although sometimes it dances in details such as hair.

At the front, we have a single 32-megapixel sensor. This camera is perforated in the upper left corner of the screen. I generally find it a good camera for selfies, and it does not detract from its results in dark rooms or at night. It also has a portrait mode to add blur though through the software. It is correct without more.

MEDIOCRE AUTONOMY BUT EXCEPTIONAL FAST CHARGING

The OPPO Find X3 Neo comes with a 4,500 milliamp battery. I have to be honest. The autonomy does not seem to me to be up to the task. I don’t know if it is the capacity itself, having a 90Hz screen, or that the energy is not fully optimized, but the truth is that I suffer to get to the end of the day without having to charge the equipment. Of course, all the buts I put in daily use become flattery as soon as I plug it in with the OPPO charger.

MEDIOCRE AUTONOMY BUT EXCEPTIONAL FAST CHARGING

And it integrates a 65W fast charge capable of charging 100% of the mobile in just 35 minutes connected to the current. It seems spectacular that you plug it into the current, go to the bathroom, and on the way back, it has already recharged 30% of the terminal, almost due to carelessness. At this point, other brands that have not yet adopted this charging speed should get their act together. Oh! And in this case, you have the charger that takes advantage of all the power of this charge included in the box, another controversial point that irritates me greatly in other proposals on the market.

A MOBILE WITH PLENTY OF POWER AND RAM MEMORY

We come to the power section. The OPPO Find X3 Neo has nothing to envy other competing models. It operates fast and fluidly when moving between menus, opening apps, or playing games. It doesn’t have the fastest processor on the market (a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865), but it allows you to run smoothly in most situations, which 95% of mobile users need.

It stands out as a top-of-the-range mobile in its internal memory and RAM. The first is 256 GB, so you won’t have any problems keeping all your photos and videos in memory. The second reaches 12 GB of RAM, a very high value that is too much for the actual use of the mobile. Still, there it is.

PRICE AND OPINIONS

The OPPO Find X3 Neo has an official price of 820 euros in stores. Of course, you can already find interesting offers that allow you to save up to 200 euros on this cost. For 620 euros it seems to me a very complete and attractive proposal, whose most outstanding points are the OLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate, its 256 GB internal memory plus its 12 GB RAM and, above all, the speed that its technology reaches fast charging (the mobile can be fully charged in 35 minutes). Of course, it is in danger of becoming a very good mobile that fails to differentiate itself from the rest or to offer a groundbreaking purchase argument that makes you opt for it instead of other teams.
