IMPROVE THE WAY YOU CLEAN YOUR TEETH

The Oral-B Series 9 is Oral-B’s most advanced toothbrush, and it shows. It came from experience with the top model two years ago, and the leap is notable in the brushing sensation and the advanced functions it incorporates. For example, a point that I found a key to improving dental cleaning is the LED light ring that tells you the pressure with which you brush. The difference is that now it shows you when you are pressing with the correct force, when pressing too little, and when pressing too much. In this way, I realized that I almost always pressed loose when brushing. It took me a while to get used to it until I got the LED ring to show green most of the time (white when pressed too little and red when pressed too hard). By the way, you can configure the ring with different colors according to your preferences. This will mean that when you press a little, you will see the color you have chosen instead of the white color.

Another key is the magnetic impulse technology that Oral-B has developed to improve brushing. Thanks to this, the energy is directed directly to the edge of the head filaments. Its micro vibrations also help eliminate plaque and generate a more powerful and long-lasting sensation of freshness. This is another point that has pleasantly surprised me. The previous brush I tried left your mouth feeling fresh, but the sensation is more intense with this brush, and I must admit that it lasted more than an hour  (as long as I didn’t eat any food or drink, of course). Great success on the part of Oral-B on this point.

By the way, speaking of the head, it must be said that it is larger than previous brushes, both the filament part and the base itself. It is immediately noticeable that it promotes better cleaning, but it must be said that it is also about twice as expensive as the previous heads. The average price of a pack of two spare parts is 20 euros. You can find the Oral-B Series 9 brush in three colors: white, black, and pink.

SEVEN CLEANING MODES

On the screen, you can see the time you have been cleaning, and it warns you with a small vibration every time you reach 30 seconds so that you can change the area of ​​your mouth. Once you have finished cleaning, you will see the quality of the brushing with a friendly face icon (more smiling when the cleaning is better) and the remaining battery in percentages of 10 in 10.

CLEANING CONNECTED TO THE MOBILE WITH LIGHTS AND SHADOWS

Another strong point of this brush is its ability to connect with the dedicated Oral-B app. Thus, you can discover many details about cleaning your teeth that you would not be able to otherwise. So, for example, every time you brush your teeth with the application open, you will see a 3D reconstruction of your teeth. The brush can approximately capture where you are brushing in six different areas. Depending on your effort in each area, it will become increasingly lighter until it shows you shiny teeth. At the end of brushing, you will see a score showing how well you have done and whether you have covered all areas satisfactorily.

And here, I have already hinted at the first problem. The app only records brushing when you have the mobile application open. It is very interesting, but I think you will ignore this application if you do not have a lot of discipline.

It should also be noted that, in my experience, the recognition of the different areas can be confused from time to time (for example, you may have moved to the lower area, and the brush has a hard time realizing it). It’s not a major problem and doesn’t always happen, but it could use a little more finesse. In any case, just having a score and seeing how you are doing is a challenge that pushes you to improve when brushing. And, speaking of challenges, there are a series of challenges in the app that help you create routines to care for your gum health, whiten your teeth, or improve your breath. There is no doubt that it is a very complete app that is worth discovering and taking advantage of.

Through this app, you will also find several interesting functions. For example, you can configure your head to know what type it is and have a countdown until a replacement is necessary. This is something very useful on a personal level because I tend to extend the life of this type of accessory too much beyond the recommended time. You also have a complete history with the brushing you have carried out in recent weeks. Here, you will see details of both the brushing time and the coverage information, that is, whether you have satisfactorily covered the different areas of the teeth and which areas you have had the most impact on. This is very useful for changing how you brush if you focus too much on certain areas over time.

Another point that I like is the information on pressure. Here, you will see if you are applying the correct pressure and in which areas. And, if that is not enough, you can also record cases of bleeding gums to know if you must go to the dentist’s office to solve the problem. In short, it is a complete and interesting app, but it can make the brushing process a little more difficult by having to be open every time you brush to record data in detail.

AUTONOMY AND CHARGING

The Oral-B iO Series 9 toothbrush has an autonomy that, according to my experience, is around two weeks of continuous use (with three two-minute cleaning sessions a day in standard mode). As always, this changes depending on the mode you use and decreases over time when using a lithium battery. There are two ways to charge the Oral-B brush. On the one hand, you have a standard circular magazine to leave it standing. On the other hand, along with the brush, a travel case incorporating charging is included. This is a very interesting addition since all you have to do is place the brush in its position and connect the cover to the power. This case is elegant and has the same oval design we have seen in previous versions of the brand’s top brushes.

PRICE AND OPINIONS

The Oral-B iO Series 9 is the brand’s most advanced toothbrush. And that shows in the price. This brush is available for 280 euros, so if you want it, you must prepare for a good investment. Of course, in exchange, you will take home a very advanced accessory in terms of power and quality. In addition, it is a versatile brush with many different modes to create your routines and achieve medium and long-term goals such as whiter teeth, a gum care routine, or fighting bad breath. Also, I liked that the brush shows you when you are using the correct pressure. (and not only when there is too much pressure) and working with the app is attractive and has posed a challenge that has hooking me. Of course, I haven’t tried it for long enough yet to know if I will maintain the same interest throughout the months of use.
