LOVEStv is the free television platform promoted jointly by Atresmedia, Mediaset España, and RTVE. It is based on HbbTV technology and allows you to enjoy some features that live television does not have. For example, this service lets us watch a program from the beginning, enjoy most of the content broadcast in the last week, see programming recommendations, or learn about the next few days through an improved guide. Now that it has been running for some time, we wanted to review the advantages and disadvantages of using LOVEStv.
Before learning about the advantages and disadvantages, and for those who still don’t know what LOVEStv is, it’s worth remembering that this service is unavailable on all televisions. What does it take to watch LOVEStv? We will need a television with an Internet connection connected to the terrestrial antenna that complies with the Hybrid DTT, Hybrid DTT 2.0 specification, or at least with version 1.5 of the HbbTV standard.
In other words, if we have a relatively new television, it is almost certain that we will be able to enjoy LOVEStv. However, if our television is a few years old, it may not be compatible. Luckily, it is very easy to know whether our TV is compatible. We only have to put one of the channels that include it (remember, RTVE, Mediaset, and Atresmedia channels) and check if we get a notice with the availability of the platform. If we have it, we will only have to press the blue button on the remote to enter.
ADVANTAGES OF LOVESTV
The main advantage of LOVEStv is that it is a free platform. If our television is compatible, we will not have to pay anything to use it. In addition, we can find content from the three major communication groups in our country: RTVE, Atresmedia, and Mediaset.
Another advantage of this platform is the possibility of watching a program or series from the beginning. In other words, if we have arrived late for a program, we can see it from the beginning just by pressing the yellow button or through the mini-guide once inside the platform. Never again will we miss something we wanted to see because we were late.
The third advantage is seeing the content broadcast in the last seven days. In the main menu, we will have an option called “Last seven days” to browse the already broadcast programming and retrieve the content that interests us.
Focusing more on each of the functionalities, we also find some features to consider advantages. For example, we can pause content in LOVEStv and pick it up again where we left off. When entering the platform, the system will remember where we left off, and when we enter the program again, it will offer us the option of going back to see it from the beginning or picking up where we left off. It also does it with several programs at the same time.
We also consider it an advantage that we can advance the content. Also, the back and forward system works fast, making it easy to move within the content.
DISADVANTAGES OF LOVESTV
LOVEStv is a very interesting platform; as mentioned before, it is free. However, it is not perfect. It could improve some details to offer an even more complete service.
Thus, within the disadvantages, we have, for example, the expiration of the content. As we have mentioned LOVEStv offers the option of enjoying VOD (video on demand or video on demand) thanks to the “Last seven days” functionality. However, once the content exceeds these seven days, it is no longer available on this platform.
On the other hand, due to audiovisual rights, some content does not appear on LOVEStv. When entering the platform, we will only see in the guides of each channel the available content that can be shown. With the series and programs produced by each channel, there is usually no problem, but films and series from other countries are another story. Most do not appear on the platform.
Finally, we have commented that moving the content forward and backward as needed is an advantage. However, this feature is only available in the “Last seven days” option. In the “View from the beginning” option, we will not be able to advance the content, so we will have to “swallow” the ads by force.
And the truth is that we have not found any other notable disadvantage when using the service. The interface may not be the best, but we must remember that this is not an application for Smart TV. It is a hybrid service that works through DTT. Hence, we cannot use the usual buttons that we use to operate other applications on the television.
In general, we are facing a rather interesting service that we can use to see that chapter that we have missed or that program that we wanted to see and to which we have arrived late.
